Nigeria Deepens Local Content Drive as New Crude Export Terminal Signals Industrial Growth

By Felix Timothy

Nigeria is strengthening its reputation as a continental leader in local content development, as energy producers and investors increasingly shift focus toward resilient and homegrown supply chains.

The commissioning of the nation’s first indigenous crude export terminal—a $400 million facility inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—has been hailed as a major step toward self-sufficiency and industrial expansion.

The project reflects the Federal Government’s “Nigeria First Policy,” which prioritises the use of local goods, services, and expertise to stimulate inclusive economic growth.

Building on this momentum, the 14th edition of the Practical Nigerian Content (PNC) Forum is set to hold from December 1–4, 2025, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Themed ‘Securing Investments, Strengthening Local Content, and Scaling Energy Production,’ the annual gathering will bring together policymakers, investors, regulators, and indigenous operators to chart new strategies for driving local participation and expanding capacity across the energy sector.

According to the organisers, discussions will focus on unlocking investment financing for indigenous firms, enhancing supplier development, accelerating technology transfer, and aligning regulatory frameworks to sustain growth.

This year’s programme will also feature a town hall session—an interactive segment designed to foster open dialogue between regulators, investors, and industry stakeholders. The session will enable participants to engage directly with policymakers, clarify implementation issues, and share practical insights across the energy value chain.

Speaking ahead of the event, Managing Director of Ikosh Nigeria Limited, Oluwamuyiwa Kosile, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting local content advancement.

“We remain committed to advancing Nigeria’s local content journey by supporting initiatives that strengthen indigenous capacity, drive innovation, and foster sustainable growth within the oil and gas industry,” Kosile said.

“Our partnership with the Practical Nigerian Content Forum underscores our belief in collaboration as the foundation for developing a self-reliant and globally competitive energy industry.”

With Nigeria’s evolving energy landscape and renewed policy direction, industry experts say the upcoming PNC Forum will be pivotal in shaping the next phase of the country’s industrial and investment agenda.
