Tinubu Holds Closed-Door Security Meeting Amid Northern School Abductions
President Bola Tinubu convened a high-level, closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday, a source within the State House confirmed.
Among those present were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyode; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kelvin Aneke; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General EAP Undiendeye; and Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu.
Also in attendance were the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Tosin Ajayi. While details of the discussions remain sparse, the meeting is widely believed to be linked to the recent wave of kidnappings in northern Nigeria.
The gathering comes in the aftermath of a deadly abduction at Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Kebbi State, on November 17. Gunmen attacked the school in the early hours of Monday, killing the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, and abducting numerous students.
Sources said the attackers operated with little resistance, spreading fear across the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area. Makuku was reportedly shot while trying to shield the students during the assault, leaving the community in mourning.
The incident adds to growing security concerns in northern states, prompting intensified coordination among the nation’s top security officials.
