EFCC Summons Former Attorney General Malami for Questioning

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has invited the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, for questioning over undisclosed matters currently under investigation.

Mr Malami, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, confirmed the development in a Facebook post on Friday, stating that he would fully comply with the commission’s request. He informed the public that the invitation was for clarification purposes and emphasised his commitment to honouring it as a “law-abiding and patriotic citizen.”

In his statement, the former minister reiterated his long-held stance on integrity and accountability in public office, adding that he would keep Nigerians informed as events unfold.

According to reports, the EFCC communicated the invitation through a letter dated 24 November, signed by Sunday Ofen-Imu on behalf of the commission’s chairman, Ola Olukoyede. The letter noted that investigators required certain information from Mr Malami and scheduled the interview for Friday at the EFCC Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

The request, made under Section 38 of the EFCC Establishment Act 2024, did not specify the allegations or issues prompting the summons.

In a follow-up statement, Mr Malami again confirmed his receipt of the letter and expressed readiness to assist the commission. He said accountability and transparency had guided his years in public service and assured the public that he would cooperate fully with investigators.

Mr Malami served as attorney general throughout the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
