The Bauchi State Government has approved the appointment of 142 district heads across the state’s 20 emirates and one chiefdom, a step aimed at reinforcing traditional governance structures and improving grassroots administration.
Appointment letters have already been issued to all the appointees, clearing the way for them to assume their duties immediately.
The Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Abubakar Muhammad Wabi, made this known during a press briefing in Bauchi, where he explained that the exercise was carried out in accordance with the Bauchi State Chieftaincy (Appointment and Deposition) Law 2025.
According to Wabi, the implementation of the law led to the formal establishment of 20 emirate councils and a chiefdom, creating the need for district heads who would oversee local administration and support traditional rulers in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He said the appointments were designed to strengthen collaboration between traditional institutions and government authorities, particularly in rural communities where traditional leadership plays a key role in maintaining order and promoting development.
The commission chairman commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for his backing of reforms within the traditional institution, as well as the cooperation of other stakeholders who contributed to the smooth implementation of the law.
Wabi also charged the newly appointed district heads to conduct themselves with fairness, accountability and a strong sense of service to their communities, assuring that the state government remains committed to fostering peace, unity and sustainable development through effective traditional governance.
