Army to Increase Nationwide Deployments to Tackle Insecurity

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has announced plans to increase the deployment of troops across the country as part of efforts to enhance security and protect law-abiding citizens.

Shaibu said the Nigerian Army was determined to intensify operations against terrorists, particularly in Niger State and other areas affected by persistent attacks.

He made the remarks on Monday in Minna, the Niger State capital, during the opening of the 2026 Doctrine and Training Conference at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of the Nigerian Army.

According to the Army chief, the expanded deployment aligns with the directive of President Bola Tinubu to decisively curb the recent surge in insecurity nationwide.

“We will significantly increase our deployments across the country in line with our mandate of making Nigeria safer for all law-abiding citizens,” he said.

Shaibu added that the Army would pursue those responsible for recent attacks and ensure they were apprehended and prosecuted.

He also noted that the Nigerian Army was increasingly relying on technology to strengthen its operational effectiveness and response capabilities.

The Chief of Army Staff explained that the doctrine and training conference was designed to evaluate existing training frameworks and doctrines, while consolidating gains recorded in 2025 in preparation for a more effective training year in 2026.

In his remarks, the Commander of TRADOC, Maj-Gen. Peter Malla, said the conference signalled the formal commencement of training activities for 2026, describing it as a critical platform for intellectual engagement and strategic discussions within the Army.
