Bauchi Records 50 Road Accident Deaths In Three Months

The Federal Road Safety Corps in Bauchi State has reported a worrying surge in road fatalities, revealing that 50 people lost their lives in traffic accidents between October and December 2025.

Sector Commander Mr Apaji Boyi disclosed this during an interview in Bauchi on Thursday, stating that the three-month period also saw 468 individuals sustain various degrees of injuries, while 193 others escaped without harm. He noted that these figures were drawn from 76 recorded road crashes across the state.

Breaking down the statistics, Boyi explained that October witnessed 10 crashes involving 77 persons, with 58 sustaining serious injuries and eight deaths recorded. In November, 25 accidents were reported, claiming 14 lives and leaving 144 injured out of 201 people involved. December proved to be the deadliest month, as 41 crashes affected 433 individuals, resulting in 28 deaths and 266 serious injuries.

The FRSC boss attributed the incidents largely to reckless driving habits such as speeding, dangerous overtaking, driver fatigue, and overloading. He also pointed to the risky practice of transporting passengers in haulage vehicles and carrying fuel in plastic containers as contributing factors.

Boyi stressed that driver behaviour remains a critical determinant of road safety, highlighting common violations including disregard for traffic rules, failure to wear seat belts, drug use, and mobile phone usage while driving.

He commended the Federal Government for its continued support to the FRSC, which he said had helped improve road safety operations over the years. However, he urged motorists to exercise greater caution, obey traffic regulations, avoid speeding and overloading, and desist from using mobile phones behind the wheel.

The sector commander further advised drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey, adding that the FRSC in Bauchi will continue its public sensitisation campaigns to promote safer road use across the state.
