Yobe State Governor, Hon. (Dr) Mai Mala Buni, has received the traditional title of Matawallen Gudi, even as he called on parents and community leaders to take greater responsibility for the character formation of their children.
The governor spoke on Sunday in Damaturu when members of the Gudi Emirate Council formally presented him with a letter confirming his chieftaincy title.
Buni stressed that the moral development of young people is a collective duty that rests on parents, elders, and traditional institutions.
According to him, the youth represent the future leadership of society and must be guided properly to ensure they grow into responsible citizens.
He further cautioned young people to steer clear of drug abuse, warning that it could derail their ambitions and limit their prospects.
Buni pledged to support initiatives aimed at advancing the development of the Gudi Emirate and improving the welfare of its people.
Speaking on behalf of the Emirate Council, Waziri Gudi, Alhaji Hussaini Masaya, said the council found the governor deserving of the title based on his leadership qualities and contributions to the state.
He explained that the position of Matawallen Gudi makes Buni one of the kingmakers in the Emirate’s traditional hierarchy.
Masaya also praised the governor for accepting the honour and for committing to serve the community in his new traditional role.
