The Director-General of the Atum Humanitarian, Anti-Corruption and Charitable Initiative (AHACCI), Hon. Ismaila Atus, has expressed strong confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s capacity to overcome terrorism, banditry and other security challenges currently troubling the country.
Atus, speaking during a media briefing in Abuja, argued that Tinubu’s long-term approach to security—shaped by his years governing Lagos State—offers a workable model for restoring peace across Nigeria. He said the Lagos security blueprint, including initiatives like Operation Sweep, proved effective in reducing crime and creating a more stable environment.
He claimed that insecurity worsened under previous administrations but stressed that Tinubu has demonstrated the political will required to reverse the situation. According to him, the President’s reliance on intelligence-led security operations, improved inter-agency coordination and increased investment in technology-based surveillance reflects a strategy that once helped Lagos achieve significant crime reduction.
“If you knew Lagos before Tinubu took over, you would understand the transformation,” Atus said. “There was a time people could not walk freely. But Lagos became safe and prosperous under his leadership. The same idea will make Nigeria grow.”
He urged Nigerians to remain patient as ongoing reforms take shape, insisting that sustained public support is vital to achieving long-term progress. Atus also used the opportunity to back Tinubu’s re-election bid, saying another term would allow the President consolidate on current initiatives.
He commended the administration’s interventions in humanitarian and welfare programmes, arguing that they are targeted at easing hardship, expanding job opportunities and supporting vulnerable groups.
“When the country is peaceful, opportunities will increase and hardship will reduce,” he said.
Atus maintained that Nigeria is on the path to a positive turnaround and reiterated AHACCI’s commitment to supporting the President’s second-term ambition, noting that Tinubu “is putting all his energy into building the country.”
