APC sets up conflict resolution committee ahead of 2027 polls as Gov Buni Leads Team

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday in Lagos inaugurated a Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation to address internal disagreements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The committee is made up of party governors, members of the Federal Executive Council and other key stakeholders. It is chaired by the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Bala Buni, with a former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, serving as member and secretary.

Other members include Senator Adamu Aliero; the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; as well as Governors Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Bassey Otu of Cross River, Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta.

Also on the committee are Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna and Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers; the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Buni thanked the president and party leadership for the confidence reposed in the committee members, assuring that the assignment would be handled with commitment and a strong sense of responsibility.

He said the committee would embark on wide consultations and strategic engagements aimed at developing inclusive and sustainable approaches to conflict resolution within the party. According to him, the focus would be on ensuring a sense of belonging for all members, particularly those who feel aggrieved, while also identifying potential threats and proactive solutions.

Governor Buni further advised committee members to place the collective interest of the party above personal considerations in carrying out their duties.

Earlier, President Tinubu had stressed the importance of unity within the APC during the party’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. He reminded party leaders that the APC was founded on progressive ideals, inclusiveness and respect for differing opinions.

The president urged party stakeholders to remain tolerant and accommodating, noting that internal cohesion was essential for the resilience and survival of the party and Nigeria’s democratic process.
