Bandits Kill One, Abduct Three in Late-Night Attack on Kano Community

Suspected bandits launched a late-night assault on Yankamaye, a community in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, killing one resident and abducting three others.

The lawmaker representing Ghari and Tsanyawa Federal Constituency, Hon. Sani Bala Tsanyawa, confirmed the incident in a statement posted on his official Facebook page. He described the attack as tragic, noting that initial reports indicated one fatality and three abductions.

The assailants were said to have struck around 11pm on Saturday, a time when most residents had already retired for the night.

Kano State Police Command spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, also confirmed the incident, saying officers had been deployed to track down the attackers and rescue the victims. “We have received reports of the attack and personnel have been deployed to ensure the rescue of the victims,” he said.

Yankamaye lies close to Kankia Local Government Area of neighbouring Katsina State, a corridor that has faced persistent banditry and kidnapping in recent years.

The assault marks the second such incident within a week in Tsanyawa LGA. Ten women were reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday in Sundu and Biresawa communities. The whereabouts of all abducted victims remain unknown at the time of this report.
