BREAKING: Tinubu Reappoints Marwa as NDLEA Chairman for Another Five Years

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), extending his tenure for another five-year term.

Marwa, who first assumed the role in January 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, will now lead the agency until 2031. His reappointment was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

Before joining the NDLEA, Marwa chaired the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse from 2018 to 2020. A seasoned military officer, he previously served as military governor of Lagos and Borno States, and held various senior roles within the Nigerian Army and foreign missions, including postings in Washington, DC, and the United Nations.

He holds postgraduate degrees in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University.

Marwa’s leadership at the NDLEA has been marked by major achievements, including the arrest of more than 73,000 drug offenders and the seizure of over 15 million kilogrammes of illicit substances. He also expanded the agency’s nationwide campaigns against drug abuse.

President Tinubu described the reappointment as a recognition of Marwa’s “outstanding efforts to rid the country of drug trafficking and drug abuse,” urging him to sustain the momentum against drug cartels and criminal networks.
