Court Adjourns El-Rufai Bail Ruling To April 21

A Kaduna State High Court has postponed its ruling on the bail application filed by former governor Nasir El-Rufai in a case brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

The decision, initially scheduled for April 14, 2026, was deferred following developments affecting the presiding judge.

El-Rufai, who is facing a nine-count amended charge bordering on alleged fraud, abuse of office, and corruption, was brought to court by operatives of the anti-corruption agency.

Proceedings lasted less than 30 minutes, after which defence counsel, Ubong Akpan, briefed journalists on the outcome.

He explained that the adjournment to April 21 was necessitated by the bereavement of the trial judge, Darius Khobo, who was unable to prepare the ruling.

Akpan expressed understanding over the situation, noting that the defence would await the new date for a decision on the bail application.

He also indicated that the legal battle could extend across multiple courts, as the ICPC continues to pursue the case in phases.

Meanwhile, El-Rufai has proceeded to the Federal High Court for further proceedings relating to his bail application in a separate matter.
