The National Youth Service Corps has alerted prospective members of the 2026 Batch A Stream I to exercise caution while travelling to their orientation camps, highlighting a series of safety measures aimed at reducing travel-related risks.
In a message shared via the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters’ X account on Tuesday, the scheme stressed that corps members should embark on their trips strictly during daylight hours, noting that travelling at night poses heightened security and road hazards.
The advisory further encouraged prospective corps members to patronise only registered transport companies and board vehicles from approved motor parks to minimise exposure to unsafe travel conditions.
NYSC also recommended that travellers share their real-time location with family members or trusted contacts throughout their journey, saying this could prove useful in case of emergencies.
In addition, corps members were urged to speak out whenever drivers engage in dangerous speeding or reckless driving, with the scheme warning that keeping silent in such situations could endanger lives.
The organisation advised travellers to ensure their mobile phones are fully charged before departure and to carry power banks to maintain communication throughout their trip.
NYSC also cautioned prospective corps members not to hesitate to halt their journey and continue the following day if it gets late, reiterating that personal safety should take precedence over reaching camp on time.
The scheme reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and security of all corps members and called on prospective participants to adhere strictly to the guidelines as preparations for the 2026 Batch A Stream I orientation exercise gather momentum.
