NYSC Warns Corps Members Against Misuse of Social Media, Urges Positive Representation

The National Youth Service Corps has warned Corps members against the negative use of social media and urged them to promote content that projects both the Scheme and the country in a positive light.

The NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, issued the caution on Friday while addressing the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Corps members at the Delta State Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku. According to a statement released on the Scheme’s official X handle, he emphasised that any harmful or irresponsible social media activity by Corps members would attract sanctions.

Nafiu also reminded them to avoid unauthorised travel and to comply fully with camp rules and guidelines.
“Follow simple instructions, be obedient, go for your biometrics and your Community Development Service. Learn and respect the cultural values of your host communities, and do not misrepresent us at your primary place of assignment,” he said.

Earlier, the NYSC Delta State Coordinator, John Kwaghe, presented the camp situation report, noting that 2,101 Corps members—944 male and 1,157 female—had been deployed to the state. He added that activities were progressing smoothly, with officials and participants demonstrating discipline and enthusiasm.

The reminder comes days after Brigadier General Nafiu, while addressing Corps members in Rivers State, advised them to uphold the Scheme’s core values throughout their service year. He urged them to remain patriotic and allow integrity, transparency, efficiency, and commitment to guide their conduct.
