The Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Ali Isa, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, citing internal crises and what he described as the erosion of democratic principles within the party.
In a resignation letter dated April 14 and addressed to the chairman of Kindiyo Ward in Cham, Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State, the lawmaker said his decision takes immediate effect.
The letter, made available to journalists, indicated that the move followed extensive consultations with key political stakeholders, family members, and supporters.
Isa attributed his exit to concerns over the party’s current direction, alleging that its structure had been overtaken by forces operating contrary to its founding ideals, resulting in factional divisions.
He added that, after careful deliberation, he concluded that his political future and the interests of his constituents would be better served outside the PDP.
The lawmaker, who represents the Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency, emphasised the need for a political platform capable of advancing the aspirations of his constituents.
Despite his departure, Isa expressed appreciation to the PDP leadership and members for the opportunity to serve under its platform, acknowledging the role the party played in his election into the National Assembly.
