Gombe State University authorities have acknowledged a dawn security breach at one of the institution’s female hostels, where a final-year student was confronted by an unidentified intruder.
In a statement released on Monday, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Hadu Ligari, explained that the incident took place in the early hours while most students were on academic break. He noted that the affected student was preparing for her project defence when the intrusion occurred.
The management said campus security operatives reacted swiftly after being alerted, moving quickly to secure the hostel and prevent further threats to residents. Ligari emphasised that the response was immediate and aimed at safeguarding all students in the facility.
It was gathered that the Vice-Chancellor and other principal officers later visited the scene to personally evaluate the situation and receive updates from security officials.
The university disclosed that the student sustained injuries while trying to protect herself but is currently receiving medical care and in stable condition.
In response to the incident, Gombe State University assured students, parents, and staff that additional security measures are being put in place to prevent a recurrence. The management reiterated its determination to maintain a safe and peaceful environment conducive to learning and student welfare.
