Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has praised the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu, describing them as a key driver of the development currently being witnessed in the state.
The governor made the remarks during an interview with journalists in Nasarawa, where he said the reforms had provided a strong economic base for growth at both state and national levels.
According to Sule, many of the ongoing projects and achievements in Nasarawa State would not have been possible without the policy changes implemented by the Federal Government.
He said the reforms had stimulated economic activity and created opportunities that enabled the state to record measurable progress, adding that both the president and Nigerians deserved commendation for pursuing and supporting the reforms despite initial challenges.
The governor noted that improvements across different sectors showed the reforms were beginning to yield results and positioning the state for sustained development.
On industrialisation, Sule said his administration assumed office with a clear agenda to transform Nasarawa into an industrial hub by focusing on areas where the state has a comparative advantage.
He identified mining and agriculture as the pillars of the state’s industrial strategy, noting that Nasarawa’s rich mineral deposits had earned it recognition as the “Home of Solid Minerals,” while significant investments had also been made in agriculture to support agro-based industries.
Sule explained that industrial growth could not be achieved without a skilled labour force, which informed his government’s focus on vocational and technical education.
He said the state had established technical schools accredited by the National Board for Technical Education, adding that the technical college in Lafia had become a reference point for training at the national level. According to him, the initiative was aimed at job creation, youth empowerment and preparing residents for industrial employment.
The governor also highlighted Nasarawa’s proximity to the Federal Capital Territory as a strategic advantage for attracting investors, alongside the relative peace and stability enjoyed in the state.
He said the combination of security and location had helped create an enabling environment for businesses and large-scale investments.
Reacting to recent political defections and concerns over the possibility of Nigeria sliding into a one-party system, Sule dismissed such fears, insisting that a one-party structure was unhealthy for democracy and not the objective of the All Progressives Congress or any other political party.
He assured residents of Nasarawa State of his continued commitment to serving their interests, saying his political journey remained guided by the will of the people.
According to him, any future responsibility he might take on would be based on the confidence of the people and his belief in his capacity to deliver.
