President Bola Tinubu has restated his administration’s resolve to confront the underlying drivers of insecurity and strengthen national unity, urging newly commissioned police officers to uphold the highest standards of service and patriotism.
Speaking at the Passing-Out Parade of Regular Course 7 of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, the President—represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume—charged the 1,187 graduating Assistant Superintendents of Police to be prepared to defend the nation, even at great personal cost.
Tinubu said the government remains committed to providing the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies with the training, equipment, and institutional support needed to restore peace across the country.
“As you embark on this noble journey, remember you are not just enforcers of the law, you are guardians of our collective security and well-being,” he told the officers. “I urge you to uphold integrity, professionalism, and service to the nation. A nation puts its trust in you, and we expect you to serve selflessly.”
The President emphasised the importance of building a competent and humane police force capable of managing internal security challenges while respecting human rights. He commended the academy’s leadership for raising a new generation of officers grounded in discipline, education, and ethical conduct.
Earlier, Academy Commandant, AIG Patrick Adedeji Atayero, announced that the graduating cadets had successfully earned bachelor’s degrees across various fields, having been found worthy in both character and academics. He highlighted the academy’s evolution from temporary campuses in Kaduna and Challawa to a full-fledged degree-awarding institution now offering postgraduate programmes.
The ceremony drew distinguished guests, including the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, senior military commanders, federal lawmakers, and top government officials.
Tinubu reaffirmed that his administration intends to transform the police education system into a world-class institution capable of producing officers defined by honesty, accountability, and professional excellence.
