The United States has supplied Nigeria with key military equipment as part of ongoing cooperation to strengthen the country’s security efforts.
The delivery was confirmed on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in a statement shared on its verified X account, formerly Twitter. According to AFRICOM, the supplies were formally handed over to Nigerian authorities in Abuja.
The command said the development reflects Washington’s continued commitment to supporting Nigeria through a sustained security partnership.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasises our shared security partnership,” AFRICOM stated, while tagging the United States Mission in Nigeria.
The assistance comes as Nigeria continues to work with international partners to strengthen its capacity to confront terrorism, banditry and other security threats across different regions of the country.
In November 2025, the administration of President Bola Tinubu appealed to the United States for direct military support to help Nigeria combat terrorism in some states. The appeal was made public by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, following the United States’ decision to designate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
Subsequently, a joint operation involving an airstrike was carried out on December 25, 2025, in collaboration with Nigerian authorities. The Federal Government later confirmed that the operation targeted terrorist positions in the North-West and formed part of ongoing security and intelligence cooperation with the United States.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that Nigeria remains engaged in structured security collaboration with international partners, including the United States, to counter terrorism and violent extremism. It said the cooperation includes intelligence sharing and strategic coordination, conducted in line with international law and with full respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Reacting to the airstrikes, US Congressman Riley Moore described the action as a decisive step toward addressing Nigeria’s security challenges and protecting vulnerable communities.
