EPL: Chelsea Tighten Title Push with Hard-Fought Victory at Burnley

Chelsea strengthened their bid for the Premier League crown on Saturday with a determined 2-0 win over a struggling Burnley side at Turf Moor.

Pedro Neto’s header late in the first half gave the visitors control, while Enzo Fernández sealed the result in the closing minutes as Enzo Maresca’s team continued their impressive run of form. The win lifts Chelsea to second place, three points behind leaders Arsenal, who face Tottenham on Sunday.

The Blues have now recorded eight wins in their last ten matches across all competitions, marking a positive milestone for Maresca in his 50th Premier League match in charge. The victory also sets the tone for a demanding week, with Barcelona visiting Stamford Bridge in the Champions League on Tuesday before a league clash against Arsenal on November 30.

Chelsea may yet slip to third depending on Manchester City’s result against Newcastle later in the day, but the performance in cold Lancashire conditions maintained their growing momentum.

Maresca praised his squad’s resilience, saying, “It’s tough after the international break, 12:30, Burnley away — it’s always a hard game. But the way we competed I’m very happy. To come here and not concede is very difficult.”

Burnley, sitting just above the relegation zone, have now lost five of their past seven league fixtures.

Chelsea’s preparations were complicated by the absence of Cole Palmer, who fractured his toe after a domestic mishap, extending his spell on the sidelines. Moisés Caicedo, fatigued from late international travel, started on the bench.

Despite an early scare — Fernández briefly required a concussion check after being struck in the head by a clearance from goalkeeper Robert Sánchez — Chelsea gradually assumed control of proceedings.

The breakthrough arrived in the 37th minute following a well-coordinated move. Marc Cucurella’s composed control in the box allowed Jamie Gittens to deliver a measured cross to the far post, where Neto steered a diving header into the corner.

Chelsea threatened to add to their lead either side of half-time, with Neto striking the post and Liam Delap forcing a save from Martin Dúbravka. Burnley’s best chance came when Zian Flemming fired over from close range.

The home side were made to pay for their profligacy as Chelsea wrapped up the contest in the 88th minute. A swift move ended with Marc Guiu squaring the ball for Fernández, who finished smartly from close range to secure the points.

The result keeps Chelsea firmly in the title conversation as they enter a defining spell of fixtures.
