Bayern Munich delivered a blistering comeback performance on Saturday, overturning an early two-goal deficit to defeat Freiburg 6–2 at the Allianz Arena, with Michael Olise starring in a five-goal contribution masterclass.
Olise scored twice and provided three assists, creating chances for Lennart Karl, Dayot Upamecano and Nicolas Jackson, while Harry Kane added another to help Bayern extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table. The victory pushes them eight points clear, following Borussia Dortmund’s draw with Stuttgart.
Freiburg stunned the hosts early with two set-piece goals from Yuito Suzuki and Johan Manzambi, leaving Bayern momentarily unsettled. But the champions roared back as 17-year-old Karl slotted in after an Olise pass, before returning the favour moments later for Olise to level with a deflected finish.
Karl had another goal ruled out for offside early in the second half, but Bayern quickly took control. Upamecano tapped in from an Olise corner to make it 3–2, before Kane smashed home Bayern’s fourth. The England captain now has 24 goals in 18 appearances across all competitions this season.
Olise continued his dominant display by setting up Jackson for Bayern’s fifth and then scoring again in the closing minutes to complete the rout. The win means Bayern have dropped just two points in 18 matches across all competitions this season.
Midfielder Aleksander Pavlovic praised Karl’s maturity, saying: “I’ve never seen a player with so much self-confidence at his age.” Karl himself admitted the start was difficult but said the team responded brilliantly.
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund’s struggles against Stuttgart continued in a dramatic 3–3 draw. Despite leading 2–0 at halftime through an Emre Can penalty and a Maximilian Beier strike, Dortmund were undone by a second-half hat-trick from Deniz Undav. Karim Adeyemi thought he had secured a late win for the hosts, but Undav completed his treble deep into stoppage time.
Bayer Leverkusen moved into second place with a 3–1 win over Wolfsburg, courtesy of goals from Jonas Hofmann, Edmond Tapsoba and Malik Tillman. Augsburg edged Hamburg 1–0 through Anton Kade, while Borussia Moenchengladbach cruised past bottom-placed Heidenheim with a 3–0 victory.
Cologne were scheduled to host Eintracht Frankfurt later on Saturday.
