Liverpool manager Arne Slot has brushed aside growing speculation over his future despite a crushing 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven at Anfield, a result that has intensified pressure on the Dutchman amid a worsening run of form.
Wednesday night’s loss marked Liverpool’s ninth defeat in 12 matches across all competitions, leaving the Premier League champions in a deepening slump as performances falter and morale dips.
Addressing reporters after the game, Slot admitted the team’s decline is alarming but said he remains unfazed by talk that his position may be under threat.
“I am not worried,” he said. “My focus is on other things than worrying about my own position. I need to do better, I know that.
“I speak to the Liverpool hierarchy — we have those talks — but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to tell me they trust me. We have normal conversations, and I feel the trust. I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet, so let’s see!”
Slot, who replaced Jürgen Klopp in the summer, described the heavy defeat as “unexpected” given the quality in his squad.
“This is very unexpected if you look at the quality that we have,” he noted. “Is it a lack of confidence? I didn’t see that in the first half. It’s not the mentality these players have shown so many times since I’m here.”
With Liverpool struggling on both domestic and European fronts, Slot now faces the most challenging phase of his tenure as he attempts to steady a side in freefall.
