Getafe president Ángel Torres has indicated that the club would gladly receive Nigerian midfielder Chrisantus Uche back, as the player’s loan spell at Crystal Palace appears to be losing momentum.
Uche, 22, moved to Palace on deadline day with an option for the Premier League side to make the deal permanent for €20m. However, the midfielder has struggled to settle in England, featuring only four times in the league and failing to secure a regular place under manager Oliver Glasner.
Speaking after receiving a lifetime achievement award on Monday, Torres told reporters, as quoted by Marca, that Getafe remains open to Uche’s return.
“Welcome if he returns,” he said, noting that the club is monitoring developments.
Reports from journalist Alan Nixon suggest both Palace and Uche are exploring ways to terminate the deal early. According to Nixon, the London club is prepared to send the midfielder back to Spain in January.
Before leaving La Liga, Uche was in impressive form for Getafe, registering a goal and an assist in just three matches. Torres hinted that Getafe may even consider selling the player again next year if he regains momentum upon returning.
Spanish media have in recent weeks reported increasing likelihood that Uche’s Premier League loan could be cut short, making a January recall a strong possibility.
