Super Eagles urged to tighten defence ahead of Tunisia clash

Former Nigeria international Moses Kpakor has called on the Super Eagles to improve their defensive organisation and finishing as they prepare for their second Group C match against Tunisia.

Kpakor, a member of Nigeria’s 1990 AFCON silver-winning team, made the remarks while speaking to Daily Trust ahead of tomorrow’s encounter in Fez.

Nigeria began their campaign with a narrow 2–1 win over Tanzania, a result that left many fans unimpressed due to the team’s inability to secure a more convincing victory. The Super Eagles dominated the first half of the match but wasteful finishing, particularly after the break, allowed the Taifa Stars back into the game and led to a tense finale.

In the group’s other fixture, Tunisia defeated Uganda 3–1 to take the lead in Group C on goal difference.

A win against Tunisia would place Nigeria in a strong position to claim top spot in the group and enhance their chances of progressing to the next round.

Kpakor stressed the need for greater commitment and focus from the Super Eagles, noting that Tunisia pose a tougher challenge than Tanzania.

He said the opening victory was positive for team morale but warned that Nigeria must raise their level against one of Africa’s strongest sides. According to him, avoidable errors could be costly against a team with the experience and quality to punish mistakes.

Kpakor added that the team must be more ruthless in front of goal, stressing that strikers at this level cannot afford to miss clear chances, as missed opportunities could have serious consequences.

The former BCC Lions and Abiola Babes defender also advised the Super Eagles to prioritise avoiding defeat against Tunisia, describing it as crucial to securing qualification for the knockout stage.
