Mcfarlane To Lead Chelsea Against Fulham Ahead Of Rosenior Takeover

Chelsea have confirmed that Under-21 head coach Calum McFarlane will be in charge of the first team for their Premier League clash away to Fulham on Tuesday.

McFarlane, who took over the club’s Under-21 side at the start of the season, also supervised the senior team during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City following the exit of Enzo Maresca.

Speaking at the club’s Cobham training base on Monday, McFarlane addressed the transition period following the appointment of Liam Rosenior as Chelsea’s new head coach. He disclosed that he had held a brief conversation with Rosenior and expressed confidence about delivering a positive result.

“I spoke to Liam briefly last night and he’s very excited about the role. It was a short conversation, but I know he’ll be at Cobham later today and we’ll talk more then. I’ve been told I’ll lead the game tomorrow and we’ll try to do the best job possible to get the three points and give him something to build on,” McFarlane said.

The Fulham fixture will be McFarlane’s second match in temporary charge of the first team before Rosenior formally takes over the squad.
