China pledges support to cuba amid u.s. pressure over latin america tensions

China has pledged to extend “support and assistance” to Cuba as the Caribbean nation faces sustained pressure and threats from the United States, officials in Beijing said on Tuesday, reaffirming the long-standing alliance between the two socialist states.

The commitment was announced against a backdrop of heightened regional tensions following recent U.S. actions in Latin America, including a controversial military operation in Venezuela that saw the capture of its leader. China’s foreign ministry expressed deep concern and opposition to what it described as coercive measures by Washington while urging the United States to halt actions that undermine regional stability and respect Cuba’s sovereignty.

China’s position reflects decades of diplomatic support for Cuba, including repeated objections in international forums to the U.S. economic blockade and sanctions imposed on the island nation. Officials in Beijing have consistently called for an end to the embargo and for respect for Cuba’s development path and national dignity.

Chinese authorities also urged Washington to cease actions perceived as punitive and to work towards constructive engagement that supports peace and stability in the region, rather than escalation. The latest pledge of assistance underlines Beijing’s intent to bolster Havana as it navigates diplomatic and economic challenges amid increasing U.S. pressure.
