Victor Osimhen has confirmed that he will undergo surgery on his fractured right forearm following the injury sustained during Galatasaray’s heavy UEFA Champions League defeat to Liverpool FC at Anfield.
The Nigerian striker disclosed this during a livestream appearance on the Twitch channel of social media personality Carter Efe, where he explained that the injury would require an operation and could keep him out for up to six weeks.
According to Osimhen, recovery is expected to take between four and six weeks, with additional time needed to regain match fitness before returning fully to competitive football.
He said the injury happened in the 10th minute of the round of 16 second leg after a challenge involving Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.
Describing the moment, Osimhen explained that he initially believed the impact was minor until he attempted to continue playing and felt severe pain in the arm.
The striker said the discomfort quickly intensified, making it impossible for him to remain on the pitch.
He also reflected on previous injury setbacks, noting that he still lives with metal screws in his face from an earlier operation that led to his trademark protective mask.
Osimhen said the current setback feels less severe compared with earlier medical challenges he has faced in his career.
He further revealed that Dominik Szoboszlai later apologised after an on-field exchange, explaining that the Liverpool midfielder had not realised how serious the injury was at the time.
According to him, Konate also sent a message after the match to express regret over the collision, stressing that there was no deliberate intent.
The forward has since returned to Nigeria ahead of the planned surgery.
Osimhen also praised Galatasaray for the support he has received since joining the Turkish side, saying the club helped him through a difficult stage in his career.
A six-week absence could rule him out of key league matches and place his availability for the upcoming derby against Fenerbahçe S.K. in doubt.
Despite the injury, the striker has recorded 19 goals and seven assists across all competitions this season.
