NFF Moves To Activate Electoral Committees Ahead Of September Elections

Nigeria Football Federation is set to inaugurate its Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee today as preparations intensify for the federation’s executive elections scheduled for September 26, 2026, in Lafia.

The inauguration will take place at the federation’s secretariat in Abuja and will be led by NFF president Ibrahim Gusau.

The ceremony is expected to formally activate both committees, which are charged with managing the electoral process and ensuring that the exercise complies with the federation’s established rules.

The 12 officials selected for the committees were approved during the extraordinary general assembly held in Yenagoa on March 23, 2026.

Those appointed include Barrister Matthew Burkala, SAN, Justice Aneke, Emmanuel Obafemi, Babagoni Grema, Barrister Benjamin Sak, Mallam Musa, Professor Abdulmalik Awwal, Arinze Anughere, Hon. Akogun Omole, Abayomi Omoyimi, Ayibaye Temedie and Ayi Ukpayam.

Seven of the officials will serve on the Electoral Committee, made up of a chairperson, vice chairperson, three substantive members and two alternates.

The Electoral Appeals Committee will consist of five officials, including three substantive members and two alternates.

Under the NFF Electoral Code, the Electoral Committee will oversee the organisation and conduct of the polls during the federation’s congress, covering candidate screening, voting arrangements and supervision of the process.

The Appeals Committee will handle disputes arising from the exercise, with both bodies expected to provide an institutional framework aimed at ensuring credibility and order ahead of the elections
