Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the full implementation of the new national minimum wage for workers across the local government system in Gombe State.
The development was announced by the Head of Civil Service, Muazu Shehu, in a statement issued through the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli.
The directive covers employees in the 11 Local Government Councils, as well as staff of the Local Education Authority and primary healthcare sector, and is scheduled to take effect from May 2026.
With the latest approval, the state government has cleared the outstanding 43 per cent balance, bringing the implementation of the wage structure to 100 per cent.
According to the Head of Civil Service, the move was made possible by improved financial capacity at the local government level, enabling councils to meet salary obligations more sustainably.
He noted that the full implementation is expected to boost worker morale, enhance productivity and improve service delivery, particularly at the grassroots.
Gombe State had earlier taken the lead among states in implementing the new national minimum wage following its enactment in 2024.
Governor Yahaya has repeatedly emphasised the importance of workers’ welfare, describing civil servants as essential to effective governance and public service delivery.
