Fintiri Visits Attack-Hit Community, Vows Stronger Security Measures in Adamawa

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has expressed deep grief over the deadly insurgent attack on Mayo Ladde community in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, describing the incident as tragic and deeply unfortunate.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday night in the Mayo Ladde community under Gaya District, was reportedly carried out by suspected members of Boko Haram. The assailants killed several residents and displaced many others, forcing them to seek refuge in safer locations.

Governor Fintiri, in a swift response, visited the affected community on Thursday to commiserate with victims and traditional authorities. During the visit, he met with the Paramount Ruler of Hong, Alheri Bulus Nyako, as well as displaced residents currently taking shelter in Uba Gaya.

Addressing the victims, the Governor conveyed his condolences and reassured them of the state government’s commitment to restoring peace and security. He emphasized that his administration would not relent in its efforts to protect lives and property across the state.

The Governor also commended the Nigerian military for their gallantry in combating insurgency in the region, pledging continued government support to security agencies and local vigilante groups to ensure sustained peace and stability.

Providing an update on the incident, Chairman of Hong Local Government Council, Inuwa Usman Wa’aganda, confirmed that nine lives were lost before security forces intervened and repelled the attackers.

Other government officials present during the visit included the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, and the Member representing Uba Gaya Constituency, Adum John Alaba. Both leaders extended their sympathies to the victims and called on residents to support ongoing government efforts to address insecurity.

Earlier, at his palace, the Tol Huba, Barr. Alheri Bulus Nyako, praised Governor Fintiri’s leadership, describing him as compassionate and responsive to the needs of his people. He expressed appreciation for the Governor’s visit and solidarity with the grieving community.

The monarch, however, urged the government to consider recruiting additional forest guards to strengthen local security architecture and complement the efforts of conventional security agencies.

Governor Fintiri was accompanied on the visit by senior government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Auwal Tukur, and the Chief of Staff, Government House, Edgar Amos, among others.

The Mayo Ladde incident highlights the persistent security challenges facing parts of northeastern Nigeria. Nonetheless, the Governor’s prompt intervention and renewed assurances have reinforced confidence in the administration’s determination to confront insurgency and restore normalcy in affected communities.

Residents and stakeholders continue to emphasize the need for sustained collaboration between government, security agencies, and local communities as efforts intensify to prevent further attacks and secure lasting peace in the region.
