Chelsea F.C. produced a dominant performance at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, overpowering Port Vale F.C. 7-0 to secure a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
The hosts wasted little time asserting control, with Jorrel Hato opening the scoring after reacting quickest to a loose ball from a corner and firing beyond Joe Gauci.
João Pedro soon doubled Chelsea’s lead after a well-worked move involving Pedro Neto, before Cole Palmer added a third before the interval by converting a rebound following an initial effort from Malo Gusto.
Chelsea maintained the intensity after the break, with Tosin Adarabioyo heading in from another Gusto delivery to extend the margin.
Andrey Santos added a fifth from a corner as the visitors struggled to contain the Premier League side.
After striking the woodwork twice earlier in the contest, Estevão Willian eventually got his reward with a simple finish, while Alejandro Garnacho completed the scoring from the penalty spot after being fouled inside the area.
The result extends Chelsea’s long unbeaten record in FA Cup meetings against lower-division opposition and keeps intact their impressive recent quarter-final record in the competition.
Port Vale, who had reached this stage after eliminating Sunderland A.F.C., were unable to match Chelsea’s quality despite making their first quarter-final appearance in decades.
Chelsea now turn attention to a semi-final outing at Wembley Stadium, while Port Vale resume their battle to avoid relegation in EFL League One
