Court Adjourns El-Rufai Bail Hearing To June

The Kaduna State High Court has postponed the bail hearing of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to the first week of June 2026.

The adjournment was ordered on Tuesday by Darius Khobo, following proceedings in the case in which the former governor is facing multiple charges related to alleged financial misconduct and abuse of office.

The charges were filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

Reacting to the development, El-Rufai’s counsel, Ukpon Akpan, criticised the repeated delays in hearing the bail application, describing the adjournment as politically driven.

The former governor appeared in court under heavy security, arriving at about 9 a.m. in a convoy accompanied by operatives of the ICPC and the Department of State Services. Movement within the court premises was restricted, while supporters gathered outside during the proceedings.

The court had initially fixed April 21 for a ruling on the bail application after hearing arguments from both sides but later shifted the date to June.

The adjournment comes amid earlier allegations by El-Rufai of attempts to implicate him in further criminal matters and prevent his release. He has also referenced a February 12 incident, claiming there were plans to arrest him upon his arrival at Abuja Airport from Cairo, which he described as part of a broader pattern.

The case is expected to resume in June when the court will deliver its ruling on the bail application.
