Sevilla Part Ways With Almeyda After Poor La Liga Run

Sevilla FC have dismissed head coach Matías Almeyda following the club’s difficult run in La Liga, where the team currently sits 15th on the table.

The Andalusian side, known for winning the UEFA Europa League a record seven times, confirmed the decision in a short statement released on Monday.

According to the club, Almeyda has been relieved of his duties after only a few months in charge, having taken over in July last year.

Sevilla thanked the 52-year-old former Argentina international for his professionalism and contribution during his time with the club, while wishing him success in his future career.

The statement did not indicate who will take charge of the team on an interim basis or whether a permanent replacement has already been identified.

The decision comes with Sevilla only three points above the relegation zone, increasing pressure on the club as the season enters a critical stage.

Almeyda arrived in Spain after managing AEK Athens FC between 2022 and 2025, where he enjoyed a successful spell before securing a three-year deal with Sevilla.

He previously began his managerial career at Club Atlético River Plate in 2011.

Club officials are expected to use the upcoming international break to decide the next direction for the team as Sevilla seek to avoid being dragged deeper into the relegation battle.
