President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sympathy with British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua following a road traffic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway that claimed two lives on Monday.
In a statement posted on his official X handle, the president described the incident as tragic and extended condolences to Mr Joshua and the families of the victims who lost their lives in the crash.
Mr Tinubu said the accident had brought sorrow during a period that should have been marked by celebration, noting the emotional impact on the boxer and his family. He urged them to remain strong in the face of the loss.
The president commended Mr Joshua, a two-time unified world heavyweight champion, for his discipline, courage and continued commitment to Nigeria, describing him as a figure whose achievements have inspired many young Nigerians both at home and abroad.
He also called for unity and compassion, stressing the importance of supporting one another in times of grief.
President Tinubu prayed for Mr Joshua’s quick recovery and for the repose of the souls of those who died in the accident.
The message comes as the Ogun and Lagos state governments confirmed that Mr Joshua is in stable condition and receiving medical attention, while investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
