Bayelsa Sets January 30 For Burial Of Late Deputy Governor

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has announced January 30, 2026, as the date for the burial of the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

The governor disclosed this on Wednesday during a meeting of the State Executive Council at the Government House in Yenagoa, where he also outlined a four-day funeral programme to honour the former deputy governor.

Diri explained that the funeral arrangements were agreed upon by a committee set up by the state government, in collaboration with the family of the deceased and his church.

According to the governor, funeral activities will begin on January 27 with sporting events in recognition of Ewhrudjakpo’s supervision of the Ministry of Sports during his lifetime.

He said January 28 has been set aside as a Day of Tributes, while special valedictory sessions will hold on January 29 at the Bayelsa State High Court and the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House.

The burial ceremony will take place on January 30, starting with a Requiem Mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Ofoni community, after which the late deputy governor will be laid to rest.

Diri noted that the funeral programme was drawn up by the committee and subsequently approved by him.
