President Bola Tinubu has announced his intention to seek re-election, stating that prevailing security challenges across parts of the country will not deter his political ambitions.
The president made the declaration while hosting Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and other stakeholders from Plateau State, where discussions reportedly centred on governance and security issues.
Addressing concerns over insecurity, Tinubu suggested that criticisms of his administration’s handling of the situation could be exploited by political adversaries seeking to undermine his leadership.
He maintained that he remains determined to continue in office, despite increasing public scrutiny and opposition calls for stronger action on security.
The remarks come against the backdrop of renewed incidents involving armed groups, kidnappings and killings in various parts of the country, developments that have intensified debate over the government’s response.
The administration has, however, consistently defended its record, noting ongoing support for security agencies aimed at addressing threats and restoring stability nationwide.
Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, is expected to complete his first term in 2027, when Nigerians will head to the polls for the next presidential election.
