Türkiye Condemns Kwara Attack, Reaffirms Support For Nigeria’s Anti-Terror Efforts

The Government of Türkiye has denounced the recent deadly attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, expressing grief over the casualties and restating its commitment to assist Nigeria in combating terrorism.

In a statement released Thursday by Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country said it was deeply saddened by the loss of life resulting from the incident in Kwara.

The statement condemned the violence and conveyed sympathies to bereaved families and the Nigerian people, adding that Türkiye would maintain its support for Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts.

The assault, which occurred on Tuesday evening, reportedly involved armed attackers who arrived on motorcycles and surrounded the communities before launching coordinated gunfire.

Local sources said the attack claimed the lives of more than 75 residents, while many others fled the area in panic, leaving homes and property behind.

One resident, identified as Umar, told journalists that the gunmen encircled the villages around 5pm, making escape difficult for many inhabitants. He said several residents were killed during attempts to flee, while others were rounded up at the palace of the village head.

Umar also alleged that a number of people were abducted in the aftermath, including relatives of the traditional ruler. He named the village head’s wife, mother and three children among those taken by the assailants.
