First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has described Braille as a critical tool for promoting inclusion, dignity and independence among blind and visually impaired persons.
In a statement to mark World Braille Day 2026, observed on January 4, the First Lady said Braille remains relevant despite rapid digital advancements, noting the need to ensure accessibility as society becomes more technology-driven.
She stressed that closing the digital divide is essential to guarantee equal access to information, education and opportunities for persons with visual impairments.
According to her, the integration of Braille with modern technology enhances access to knowledge and empowers visually impaired individuals to participate fully in society.
Tinubu added that Nigeria must sustain efforts to create inclusive environments that enable all citizens to live productive and independent lives.
She also called for stronger policies and partnerships aimed at empowering citizens and promoting active participation in national development.
The First Lady concluded by wishing Nigerians a happy World Braille Day 2026.
