The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has inaugurated the party’s Primary Election Committee and Appeal Committee for the forthcoming Osun State governorship primary.
The inauguration took place on Friday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, ahead of the primary election scheduled for Saturday.
A statement shared on the party’s official X handle said the primary election committee is chaired by the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo. Other members of the committee include Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State. Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is also a member, while Solomon Maren serves as secretary.
The Appeal Committee is headed by the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Buni. Members of the committee include Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase; and the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Kesto. Former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Ramatu Aliyu, is the secretary.
Meanwhile, the party had earlier disqualified a former National Secretary of the APC, Iyiola Omisore, along with six other aspirants, from participating in the Osun governorship primary. Those screened out include Babatunde Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Okiki and former Senator Babajide Omoworare.
Only two aspirants, Mulikat Jimoh and Munirudeen Oyebamiji, were cleared by the party to contest in the primary.
The Osun State governorship primary, scheduled for December 13, will be conducted through consensus, in line with the procedure adopted by the APC for the exercise.
