Senate panel clears three non-career ambassadorial nominees

The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs has approved the appointment of three non-career ambassadors nominated by President Bola Tinubu.

The confirmation followed a hearing conducted by the committee on Tuesday. The nominees are Lateef Kayode Kolawole Are from Ogun State, Aminu Muhammad Dalhatu from Jigawa State, and Emmanuel Ayodele Oke from Oyo State.

Their clearance completes the review of the non-career nominees forwarded by the President for diplomatic postings.

The development comes on the heels of last week’s confirmation of 68 other ambassadorial nominees by the Senate. Among those earlier approved were former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu; former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode; former presidential aide, Reno Omokri; and former Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau.

The Senate said the confirmations were in line with constitutional provisions and aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad.
