Wike Reinstates Suspended FCT Education, Revenue Officials

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved the reinstatement of the Mandate Secretary of the Education Secretariat, Dr Danlami Hayyo, and the Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service, Mr Michael Ango.

The decision was conveyed in a statement released on Wednesday by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

Dr Hayyo had earlier been suspended following controversy surrounding a leaked memo purportedly issued by the Director of School Services at the FCT Secondary Education Board, Aishatu Alhassan, which suggested that government secondary schools would be shut by November 28, 2025. The FCT Administration later dismissed the memo as false, insisting that no such directive was approved or discussed at any level.

In response to the confusion generated by the memo, Wike ordered the suspension of the Education Secretary and directed the FCT Head of Service, Mrs Nancy Nathan, to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Alhassan in line with civil service regulations.

Mr Ango, on the other hand, was removed as Acting Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service on December 8, 2025. Although no reason was officially stated for his removal at the time, the minister had directed the most senior officer in the agency to assume responsibility pending further developments.

Olayinka disclosed that both officials have now been restored to their positions, with the minister cautioning that misconduct and indiscipline would not be tolerated within the FCT Administration.

“The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reinstated the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr Danlami Hayyo, and the Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service, Mr Michael Ango,” the statement said.

“The minister warned that acts of indiscipline would not be tolerated among officials of the FCTA and directed both Dr Hayyo and Mr Ango to resume duties with immediate effect.”
