The Federal Government has reiterated its assurance on the safety of students and the uninterrupted delivery of education across the country, following the reopening of all 47 Unity Colleges earlier this month.
This reassurance was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade. The ministry said normal academic activities have resumed fully in the schools after enhanced security measures were put in place within and around the campuses.
According to the statement, students have returned to their hostels and classrooms without incident, with many schools already rounding off December academic programmes, while others have concluded their examinations.
The ministry stressed that the protection, welfare and overall well-being of students remain a core priority for the Federal Government. It added that close collaboration is ongoing with relevant security agencies to maintain stability and ensure a conducive learning environment nationwide.
“The Federal Government remains resolute in its responsibility to safeguard every Nigerian child and to guarantee their right to quality education in a safe and secure setting,” the statement said.
It further noted that education remains central to the administration’s human capital development agenda, emphasising the need to avoid disruptions to the academic calendar despite prevailing security challenges.
The ministry said the smooth return of students and the successful conduct of examinations in several Unity Colleges demonstrate the government’s determination to keep learning on course.
Parents, school administrators and students were commended for their cooperation and patience, as the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining a secure, stable and uninterrupted education system across the country.
