Federal University Kashere Appoints Ja’afaru As New Vice-Chancellor

Professor Muhammad Inuwa Ja’afaru has been named the new Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere in Gombe State, following a competitive selection exercise.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Williams O. Aderounmu, announced the appointment on Tuesday after the process concluded at the council chamber of the institution. He said Ja’afaru outperformed 19 other contenders to emerge as the university’s fourth substantive vice-chancellor.

Ja’afaru will succeed Professor Umaru A. Pate, whose tenure is due to end on February 11, 2026. According to Aderounmu, the appointment was determined strictly on merit, with the new vice-chancellor recording the highest score in the assessment.

An Environmental Microbiology professor in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Ja’afaru previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the institution, supervising key administrative functions.

He was appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor in June 2024 after the expiration of his predecessor’s tenure and led the university until July 2024, when he handed over to Professor Ibrahim Umar, the ninth substantive vice-chancellor.

University officials say Ja’afaru earned recognition within the academic community for steady leadership and administrative effectiveness during the transition period.
