Federal Government Opens 2026 PTDF Overseas Scholarship Applications

The Federal Government has formally opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering Nigerian postgraduate students the opportunity to study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.

The announcement was made on Monday through a post on X by Dada Olusegun, Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, confirming that the scholarship portal is now active for interested candidates.

According to details published on the PTDF scholarship board’s website, the programme is designed for MSc and PhD students pursuing courses related to the oil and gas industry. Beneficiaries will receive full financial support covering tuition, return airfare, accommodation, living expenses, health insurance, and research bench fees where applicable.

The agency noted that the scheme is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s technical capacity in the petroleum sector by providing access to advanced training and research facilities abroad.

For PhD candidates seeking admission in the United Kingdom, the programme will operate under a split-site model, allowing scholars to conduct part of their research at the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna, while collaborating with partner institutions such as Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Portsmouth.

PTDF stressed that the scholarship selection process is highly competitive, with only top-performing applicants considered. Selection will be based on academic records, quality of research proposals, professional affiliations, and the relevance of proposed studies to the oil and gas sector.

MSc applicants are required to possess at least a Second Class Lower degree, have completed the National Youth Service Corps programme, be computer literate, and have at least five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics. PhD applicants must submit a detailed research proposal of up to five pages outlining their study objectives, methodology, and data collection plan.

The agency also warned that all applicants must have a verified National Identity Number before applying, as multiple applications or submission of false documents will lead to automatic disqualification.

Interested candidates can apply through the official PTDF scholarship portal at scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng, with the application window closing on February 27.
