Macron Reaffirms Support for Nigeria in Tackling Security Crisis

French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged stronger cooperation with Nigeria as the country grapples with rising insecurity, particularly terrorist activities across the northern region.

In a message shared on X on Sunday, Macron said he held discussions with President Bola Tinubu and assured him of France’s commitment to assisting Nigeria in confronting its security threats.

“I spoke with President Tinubu of Nigeria, @officialABAT,” Macron posted. “I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the North. At his request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations. We call on all our partners to step up their engagement. No one can remain a spectator.”

Macron’s remarks come amid renewed attacks and kidnappings across northern Nigeria, developments that have intensified global concern.

The French President also noted that his administration would work closely with the Nigerian government to deliver humanitarian and security support to communities impacted by violence.

The statement follows a series of international reactions to Nigeria’s security crisis. Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump redesignated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern over religious freedom violations and warned of possible military intervention—claims the Nigerian government has repeatedly denied, insisting that insecurity affects citizens of all faiths.

As part of broader diplomatic engagements, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, met with U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon on November 20 to discuss collaborative strategies for addressing the nation’s security challenges.
