PDP’s Northern Bloc Backs Kabiru Turaki as National Chairman
The leadership dynamics within the Peoples Democratic Party took a new turn in late October 2025, as northern stakeholders rallied behind senior lawyer and former minister, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, endorsing him as the party’s consensus national chairman.
The decision, which followed weeks of consultations and political maneuvering, was sealed at a meeting in Abuja attended by governors, key party chieftains, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other influential northern leaders.
Turaki’s emergence was formally announced by former Anambra Central senator, Ben Obi, at a gathering on Saturday night, marking a significant moment in the PDP’s internal restructuring.

A seasoned legal practitioner, Turaki boasts decades of experience spanning constitutional law, election petition litigation, commercial arbitration, cross-border crime, intellectual property, and the oil and gas sector.
He is a Notary Public and holds multiple professional fellowships, including FCIArb and FCIDA, underscoring his prominence in Nigeria’s legal community.

Turaki’s political résumé includes serving as:
- Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs
