Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday travelled to his hometown of Jada in Adamawa State to complete his registration as an official member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), drawing large crowds of supporters who lined the route to welcome him.
Videos from the visit showed Atiku’s convoy entering the town amid drumming, singing, and jubilant displays from residents. Supporters waving placards with his image — some reading “Welcome Daddy” — gathered around his vehicle as he acknowledged the crowd.
The former vice president had earlier hinted at his political move during a meeting with the Adamawa ADC leadership in Yola, where he described the emergence of a “new political movement” in Nigeria. He told party members that the movement had led him to the ADC and sought their consent to join officially.
“After that, on Monday, I will be officially in the ADC. Before now, I was not in; you were here before me. Will you accept me?” he asked, receiving a loud affirmative response.
Atiku expressed optimism that the formalities would go smoothly, noting, “May God allow us to witness Monday. It is tomorrow; we are hopeful to meet tomorrow.”
The ADC has recently positioned itself as a major opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, attracting several influential political figures. Among them are former Senate President David Mark, who serves as interim national chairman; former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, the interim national secretary; and other notable personalities including Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Dele Momodu, Dino Melaye, Gabriel Suswam, and Ireti Kingibe.
