Southern Governors Convene in Ogun to Discuss Regional Priorities

Governors from the southern states are set to meet today in Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, to deliberate on key national and regional concerns as part of efforts to deepen cooperation across the South.

The gathering, announced in a statement by Ogun State Governor and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, Prince Dapo Abiodun, will take place at the Governor’s Residence in Iperu at 10:00 a.m.

The statement also noted that the governors will later engage with the Southern Traditional Rulers Council at 1:00 p.m., in a joint session aimed at strengthening the bond between political leaders and traditional institutions. The meeting is expected to provide a platform to address issues of mutual interest and reinforce unity within the region.

In a message shared on X, Governor Abiodun highlighted the significance of hosting both governors and royal fathers ahead of the forum’s deliberations.

“As we prepare to host the Southern Governors’ Forum meeting today, we were pleased to receive some of the distinguished attendees, particularly traditional rulers and respected leaders from across the southern region,” he wrote.

He added that the early visits provided room for deeper engagement and alignment of expectations before the formal meeting.

“We value the presence of our royal fathers and regional leaders, whose wisdom and guidance continue to enrich our processes.

“As host, we remain committed to creating an atmosphere that encourages honest dialogue and fosters stronger collaboration among all stakeholders as we work together for the peace, stability, and development of our region and, by extension, our country.”
