The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has signalled that Governor Ademola Adeleke may reconsider his bid for the party’s 2026 governorship ticket amid deepening internal crises within the PDP.
State Chairman, Sunday Bisi, disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing in Osogbo, explaining that unresolved disputes within the party’s national leadership have derailed preparations for the governorship primary earlier scheduled for December 2.
Bisi noted that Adeleke had fulfilled all prerequisites for seeking the nomination, including purchasing and submitting the expression of interest and nomination forms within the approved timeframe of October 13 to 25, 2025. He added that the governor was screened and cleared by the party’s committee on October 30, receiving his Certificate of Clearance without objections.
However, Bisi said the upheaval in the PDP’s national leadership—including suspensions and counter-suspensions of key officials responsible for overseeing congresses and forwarding candidate lists to the Independent National Electoral Commission—had plunged the process into uncertainty.
He explained that the crisis disrupted the ward and local government congresses set for November 24 and 29, the exercises required to elect delegates who would participate in the primaries. Many of the issues fuelling the conflict, he said, are currently before various courts across the country.
“With these developments, it has become inevitable that the PDP governorship primaries scheduled for December 2 can no longer hold,” Bisi stated.
He added that Adeleke’s interest in seeking the party’s nomination may wane if the national leadership crisis is not resolved in a manner recognised by INEC and within the commission’s stipulated timeline.
At the national level, the PDP remains divided into factions, a situation that has strained its organisational capacity ahead of key elections.
According to the INEC timetable for the August 8 Osun governorship poll, political parties have until December 15 to submit the names of their candidates.
