Kefas Meets Tinubu in First Presidential Visit Since Defection to APC

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Kefas, who arrived at the State House around 2 pm in the company of All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, proceeded straight into the meeting, according to observations by our correspondent.

The visit marks Kefas’ first appearance at the Presidency since his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC.

Kefas was originally scheduled to be formally received into the ruling party on November 19, but postponed the ceremony, saying it would be inappropriate to hold a political celebration amid the abduction of schoolgirls in Maga, Kebbi State.

His defection came shortly after the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly and fifteen lawmakers abandoned the PDP for the APC, citing alignment with the Federal Government and deepening turmoil within the opposition party.

At the national level, the APC has intensified efforts to attract opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 elections, with insiders suggesting that more defections from PDP-controlled states in the North and Middle Belt are imminent.

Kefas, a retired army lieutenant colonel and former NIMASA board chairman, won the 2023 governorship election as the PDP candidate. He hails from Wukari and once served as Taraba PDP chairman before becoming the party’s flag-bearer.
